  • Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐✨☆ (3.5/5)
  • The High Point: The infectious, unfiltered energy of the ten neurodiverse actors who truly own every frame they are in.
  • The Low Point: A slightly didactic tone in the second half that feels like a “moral science” lesson.
  • OTT Release: Streaming on Sony LIV from April 3, 2026 (Good Friday Weekend).
  • Box Office: Grossed over ₹265 Crore globally during its theatrical run.

From “Taare” to “Sitaare”: The Evolution of a Spiritual Sequel

Released in theaters on June 20, 2025, and now finally heading to a subscription-based OTT platform after a unique YouTube rental experiment, Sitaare Zameen Par is Aamir Khan’s “flip” of his 2007 classic. While Taare Zameen Par showed a teacher helping a student, here, the “Sitaare” (the students) teach the “Taara” (Aamir). Having watched this both in the cinema and via its recent digital previews, it’s clear that director RS Prasanna has managed to create a sports dramedy that is as educational as it is entertaining.

The Coach Who Needed Coaching: Gulshan Arora

Aamir Khan’s performance as Gulshan Arora is a welcome departure from his recent “noble” characters.

  • The “Jerk” Hero: Gulshan is an arrogant, short-tempered basketball coach who is sentenced to community service after a drunk-driving incident. Aamir plays the “insolent coach” with a grounded realism, often poking fun at his own height and “Mr. Perfectionist” image.

  • The “Magnificent Ten”: The film’s real strength lies in the casting of ten neurodivergent actors (including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, and Simran Mangeshkar). They aren’t portrayed as “victims” or “tragic figures” but as individuals with distinct, often hilarious, personality quirks.

  • Information Gain: One specific detail that sets this apart from the Spanish original (Campeones) is the inclusion of Hargovind’s arc. Played by Naman Misra, his journey from a reclusive gardener to a confident team player provides the most authentic look at the “silent social stigma” neurodivergent adults face in Indian society.

Technical Craft: Balancing Message and Mass

  • Direction: RS Prasanna (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan) maintains a cheery, fast-paced vibe, though the 155-minute runtime does feel stretched during the final tournament in Mumbai.

  • The Music: The trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy returns with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. While there isn’t a “Maa” equivalent here, the track “Sabka Apna Normal” is an anthem for inclusion that stays with you.

Parental Guide & OTT Strategy Note

  • Rating: UA 13+.

  • Content: Themes of neurodivergence (Down Syndrome and Autism), some mild language (specifically the word ‘pagal’ used in a clinical/critical context), and a drunk-driving subplot.

  • OTT Shift: Aamir Khan’s decision to move from a ₹100 YouTube rental model to Sony LIV on April 3 shows a strategic pivot to reach a wider audience during the 2026 holiday weekend.

Final Verdict: A Heartwinning Lesson

Sitaare Zameen Par is a “rousing slam dunk” because its heart is in the right place. It may be simplistic in its resolution, but it forces the audience to rethink their definition of “normal.” If you missed its experimental YouTube run, the Sony LIV premiere is a must-watch for families.
